From Staff Reports
Three people were transported to a local hospital and one was charged with DUI following a two vehicle accident Thursday evening on U.S. Highway 91.
According to law enforcement officers, a vehicle driven by Jenny Elizabeth Bailey, age 31, of 1138 Highway 91, was in a turning lane on Highway 91 in the area of the Volunteer Mart when it was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by Steven Dana Carver, age 39, of 198 Dry Branch Road.
Both Carver and Bailey, as well as Bailey's 9-year-old son Dylan who was a passenger in her vehicle, were transported to Sycamore Shoals Hospital by the Carter County Rescue Squad. Carver sustained a lasceration to his face while Bailey was complaining of neck and back pain. Emergency personnel on the scene advised that they did not believe that the child was injured but he was taken to the hospital to be examined.
The speed of Carver's vehicle may have been a contributing factor in the accident, according to law enforcement personnel. "I would estimate that approximately 94 feet of skid mark was laid from start to contact point," Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Jerry Proffitt stated.
Carver was charged with DUI, driving on a revoked license, violation of the financial responsibility law and violation of the vehicle registration law in relation to the accident.
No word on the condition of Bailey, her son or Carver was available Thursday night.
