announces candidacy for ECS School Board

William T. Sonny Hunt has announced his candidacy
for the School Board of Elizabethton City Schools.
Hunt is married to the former Charlotte Graves,
a native of Brandon, Miss. The couple resides at 411 East K
Street in Elizabethton.
He attended elementary and high school in Elizabethton,
graduating from Elizabethton High School in 1957. Following
high school, he attended East Tennessee State University, where
he earned a degree in Mathematics in 1962.
Hunt received an ROTC commission upon graduating
from college and spent the next nine years in the U.S. Army
Signal Corps during the Vietnam era.
Following his military service, he returned home
and was employed by Elizabethton City Schools as a mathematics
teacher from 1971 to 1992. He continued to serve as a guidance
counselor until his retirement in 1998.
In announcing his candidacy, Hunt points out several
areas of personal interest he said he believed needed improvement
in Elizabethton City Schools.
Hunt says he expresses an interest in expanded
computer use, equal opportunities for all students, increased
emphasis in vocational and career education, an enhanced curriculum,
uniform hiring practices, and a conservative fiscal policy.
Hunt says his door will always be open to the public
