Cole announces state aid for roads
From Staff Reports
State Rep. Ralph Cole announced Friday that the
Tennessee Department of Transportation has awarded two separate
grants for road improvement in Carter County. The combined
grants will result in $402,556 in funds to improve local roads
and bridges after it is matched locally.
The first grant is a "state aid" grant and will
total $170,324 to be matched locally with $56,775. The combined
total of $227,099 can be used at the discretion of the county
for roads they deem have the greatest need, according to Cole.
"The grant can be used for a variety of road
projects like resurfacing," Cole said.
The second grant is a bridge improvement grant
for $122,750. That grant requires a local match of $52,607.
The combined total of $175,357 is designated for use on bridge
projects and repairs.
"We appreciate the help that these grants will
give us to make our local roads safer," said Cole. "We will
continue to work with our local officials and Governor Sundquist
to bring more transportation dollars home for improvements
to our local roads."
