Officials investigate sewage spill

  From Staff Reports
The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources inspected a sewage spill in Boone, N.C., at the Country House Village sewage tanks. On Sept. 17, heavy rain from Hurricane Ivan caused the 5,000-gallon plant's capacity to overflow for more than two hours into Valley Creek.
Officials tested the spill and determined no damage was done to the creek and that no fish were killed from the spill. The plant services the Valley Creek Apartments.
Valley Creek runs into the Watauga River and Watauga Lake in Carter County.
Douglas Green, representative from the plant, said the public is required to be notified even if the spill caused no harm to the creek. NCDENC officials did not tell surrounding residents to take precautionary methods against the creek waters.
