Childbirth related classes set for JCMC

  Several childbirth related classes have been scheduled by Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC). All classes will be held in the Center for Women's Health conference room at JCMC.
  The Great Expectations childbirth preparation series introduces the expectant mom and her coach to body changes of late pregnancy; stages and phases of labor and delivery; the role of the coach; pain management, breathing and relaxation techniques; expectations after-delivery and much more. A tour of the labor and delivery area is included. The class will be held on Mondays Oct. 4-18, from 7-9 p.m.
  The Infant Care Basics class is centered on what to expect after delivery and provides an opportunity to learn about infant characteristics, newborn care (e.g., bathing, diapering, navel cord care) as well as feeding options and safety issues including car seat information. Dads, grandparents, older siblings and support persons are invited. The class will be held Tuesday, Oct. 5, from 7-9 p.m.
  The Breast-feeding Basics Class will be taught by lactation consultants and RNs to provide information to assist families in learning the art of breastfeeding. Topics include preparation for breastfeeding, benefits to mother and baby, getting started, managing breastfeeding and available resources. Dads, grandparents and support persons are invited Tuesday, Oct. 12, from 7-9 p.m.
  Young Moms and Dads Class for young mothers, dads and support persons are invited to join a special prenatal education and support program to meet the needs of the pregnant teenager. Learn about pregnancy, pressures from peers, your changing body, your growing baby, what to expect during labor and delivery, infant care, safety, goal setting and planning your future, plus enjoy informative classes, pamphlets, movies, snacks and special prizes.
