'Women and Heart Disease' health screening at SSH

From Staff Reports

A comprehensive screening focusing on the women and heart disease initiative, "The Heartbeat of a Family, Caring for a Woman's Heart" developed by Cardiovascular Services at Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC), will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton.
The screening will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with patients scheduled every 15 minutes, beginning at 8 a.m. with the last appointment scheduled at 4:30 p.m.
Heart disease is not for men only and is the number one killer of women in the United States. The Center for Cardiovascular Health at JCMC created the initiative to increase awareness of women and heart disease.
The comprehensive screening will include lipid panel, which consists of HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose. A coronary risk profile, aorta scan, ankle brachial index and a carotid scan are also included. Participants' cardiovascular risk factors will be discussed with a nurse educator.
Cost of the comprehensive screening is $75. Payment is due upon arrival. To register, call 431-5551 or 800-888-5551.
