A Carter County woman was arrested and charged Monday afternoon after she reportedly escaped from a bailiff who was transporting her from a courtroom to the jail.
Amber Dee Shepard, 35, 358 Rambling Rd., was arrested around 2:15 p.m. Monday by Carter County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Keith Range and charged with escape.
According to reports, CCSD Deputy Eulas Sargent was escorting Shepard from the courtroom back to the jail at the time of the incident. "During this time, Ms. Shepard began to run and exited the building," states Range in his report. "Ms. Shepard then ran northbound across East Elk Avenue towards Food City. She was apprehended a short time later and escorted back to the jail."
Shepard had appeared in court that morning on a violation of probation charge on which she had just been convicted, Range states in his report.
