A Stoney Creek man was taken into custody Saturday evening after he reportedly stabbed another man in an altercation that took place at his residence.
Timothy J. Birchfield, 46, 3046 U.S. Highway 91, was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday by Carter County Sheriff's Department Deputy Ivan Sluder and charged with aggravated assault.
"While patrolling north on Highway 91 ... I was flagged down by a man bleeding from the chest," Sluder states in his report. "He told me that Timothy J. Birchfield had cut him."
The officer pulled his cruiser into the driveway at Birchfield's residence. "There were three adults there on the property yelling at each other and two other adults on across the road," Sluder states in his report. "Mr. Birchfield was standing just inside his mobile home talking on the phone."
According to reports, the officer talked to those present and asked them to settle down. "When I got things settled and all parties separated, (the victim) told me that he and Mr. Birchfield had been into an argument and that Birchfield took out his knife and cut him several times before he could get away," Sluder states in his report.
The Carter County Rescue Squad transported the victim to Sycamore Shoals Hospital to receive stitches and further treatment for the wounds he sustained in the incident.
Birchfield was then arrested at the scene and transported to Carter County Jail, where he was later released on a $5,000 bond.
Birchfield is scheduled to appear before Judge John Walton in General Sessions Court on Oct. 8.
