Annual 'Magical Night of Giving' to benefit local charities, groups

JOHNSON CITY -- The Mall at Johnson City has announced plans for the Sixth Annual Magical Night of Giving, the popular holiday fund-raising evening to be held on Sunday, Nov. 14, from 7 to 10 p.m. Like last year's well-received event, Magical Night of Giving will be a three-hour extravaganza of exclusive savings throughout the mall, plus family-oriented activities, holiday entertainment and $30,000 in door prizes to be given away.
The mall will be open only to ticketholders during the time of the event. Tickets are $5 and will be sold to the general public by local nonprofit and charitable organizations in the weeks leading up to the occasion.
The unusual concept is explained by The Mall at Johnson City marketing manager Marsha Hammond. "It's all part of Glimcher's (mall owner) wish to give back to the communities that are so good to us. On the Sunday that Magical Night of Giving takes place, we'll close the mall one-hour before the event begins and then reopen at 7 p.m. with special admission by ticket only."
One hundred percent of the funds raised through ticket sales will go to local charities. This provides a unique chance for people to get a jump start on their holiday shopping and have a lot of fun at the same time, including visiting with Santa and his special guests. With the many store discounts and specials being offered, shoppers can save money while raising funds for local nonprofit groups. Children under 12 will receive free admission when accompanied by an adult ticketholder.
Hammond also noted that Magical Night of Giving is the only corporate developer-sponsored event of its kind nationwide.
The event is a unique fund-raising occasion, in that it presents an opportunity for local nonprofit organizations to benefit by receiving 100 percent of the funds raised from ticket sales. Any nonprofit organization, including schools, churches and other groups wishing to become a part of the event, will receive pre-printed tickets from the mall, which its members can then sell to the public. There are no start-up costs or fees to the organizations that sell tickets. In addition to tickets being sold by charitable and nonprofit groups, tickets will also be on sale at the mall's Guest Services Center. Proceeds from in-mall ticket sales will benefit he Johnson City/Washington County Red Cross.
Shoppers attending the event will find a wide variety of family-friendly activities and entertainment, including visits with Annabelle the Reindeer, strolling magicians and performers throughout the mall.
Magical Night of Giving will also feature special visits with Santa Claus and his entourage, complete with treats for the kids. Photos with Santa will be available for purchase.
Door prizes will be given away at the rate of nearly one per minute, including a 2004 Hyundai Accent, courtesy of Friendship Hyundai, and other big-ticket items, which will be announced as the event date draws nearer.
For additional information on Magical Night of Giving, or if your organization is interested in participating, tickets and promotional flyers will be distributed on Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Health Resources Annex, located on the lower level. To find out how your organization can become a part of the event, contact Marsha Hammond or the mall office staff at 282-2830.
