Shriners hope to make up for lack
of donations
From Staff Reports
The Shrine of North America spends roughly $18
a second at its 22 hospitals across North America: healing
burns, providing artificial limbs and helping children with
spinal cord injuries relearn the basic skills of everyday
life.
At Shriners Hospitals, this has been ongoing
since 1922 at no cost to children or parents. Approximately
99 percent of Shrine funds go to treatment.
Perhaps because of the downturn in the economy,
during the Elizabethton Shrine Club's annual May paper drive,
the club barely met its goal.
"We raised about $31,000 over the week of May
13-19," said Martin Yoakley of the Elizabethton club. In previous
years the club has consistently exceeded its goal.
Members are hopeful that persons who missed the
opportunity to donate in May and still might want to contribute
can help them raise another $5,000.
Donations, in the form of check or money order,
can be sent to: Jericho Shrine Temple, 1100 Sam Walton Drive,
Kingsport, TN 37633.
Donations should be noted for Elizabethton's
May paper drive.
