A 17-year-old male was injured after being stabbed during an altercation at an Elizabethton establishment early Sunday morning and police are still investigating the incident.
The fight occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Sunday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2166, located at 2001 W. Elk Ave., and several officers of the Elizabethton Police Department were called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
"Upon arrival, officers saw a large number of people coming out of the VFW," said EPD Ptl. Jerry Bradley in his report on the incident. "Upon investigation it was found that one of the subjects had received two lacerations to the left side of his body. A number of people were shouting that he had been stabbed."
Officers on the scene notified medical personnel and tried to locate a weapon or a suspect. "Officers had the subjects return inside the VFW and called for CID (Criminal Investigations Division) assistance," Bradley said. "Officer (Jesse) Pena was also called to the scene to help in the investigation as a translator.
"Officers and detectives began to interview witnesses in regards to the incident. A number of subjects were transported to CID and to the police department to be interviewed as witnesses."
The victim, who was identified only as a 17-year-old Hispanic male in police reports, was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital where he was listed in stable condition at the time the report was filed. Updated information on his condition was not available Monday evening.
Through the course of the investigation, officers were able to get a description of a suspect, another Hispanic male juvenile, according to reports, but no charges have been placed at this time. "We do have a suspect at this time and the investigation is ongoing," said EPD Detective Matt Bowers.
According to statements made by witnesses to officers at the scene, this was not the first altercation between the two individuals. "It was reported that the two subjects had been involved in a fight three weeks ago at the same location and tonight's altercation was retaliation for the previous incident," Bradley said.
