Donley announces candidacy for City Council

Judy Donley, 1207 Erie Lane, has announced her candidacy for the Elizabethton City Council seat on the Aug. 5 ballot.
Donley says in her campaign announcement that the "primary goal of the City Council is to draft policies that the city operates by. Additionally, these policies need to encourage growth in the community for both families and businesses." She said the problem she sees with the current City Council is a "lack of communication" between the community and its leaders.
"Open communication is essential in any forum to ensure the best possible results for the city and the community it serves," Donley states. "I pledge to work with you, our families and businesses, to foster open communications that will allow for better planning for our future.
"Additionally, I am dedicated to ensuring our local businesses have a voice on the council."
Donley is currently employed with US Airways Express at the Tri-Cities Regional Airport in Blountville. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in business. She served in the United States Air Force from 1974 to 1979.
She and her husband Jeffrey Donley moved to Elizabethton after he retired from a 20-year career in the U.S. Navy.
Donley is vice-president of the Carter County Republican Women and past first vice chairman of the Carter County Republican Party's Executive Committee. She serves on the board of directors of ARM (Assistance and Resources Ministries) as immediate past president of the Elizabethton Lions Club, and is a member of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary. She attends First Christian Church in Elizabethton.
