61-year-old woman charged with assaulting Sheriff's Deputy

From Staff Reports

A 61-year-old woman was arrested Friday night and charged with assault on an officer after she brandished a weapon at officers who had responded to the scene on another call.
Jenny Helen Kalbfleisch, 342 Dalewood Drive, was charged with assault on an officer and public intoxication and taken into custody by Carter County Sheriff's Department Deputy Sarah Ryan.
According to a report by Ryan, she and CCSD Lt. B.L. Huffman and Tennessee Constable Willie Mathes had responded to the residence on Dalewood Drive on a reported altercation which had occurred between two male subjects that had resulted in an assault.
"While (Ryan) was speaking with the victim in the driveway of the residence, a white female, identified as Jenny H. Kalbfleisch, approached (Ryan) with a hammer in her hand," Ryan states in her report. "Officers ordered her to drop the weapon (and) she disregarded repeated commands and continued her advance."
According to reports, as Ryan began closing the "reactionary gap" between herself and Kalbfleisch, the other woman raised the weapon over her head. "She was disarmed and taken into custody," Ryan states in her report. "She had slurred speech, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath and was unsteady on her feet."
At that time, officers placed Kalbfleisch into the patrol vehicle and transported her to the Carter County Jail, where she has since been released on bond. She is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on August 19.
