Teens on Milligan campus for YiM conference

Teens from throughout the United States are on the Milligan College campus this week as Milligan holds Youth in Ministry (YiM)'s week-long summer conference. The Big Picture Teen Leadership Conference provides workshops for those interested in teaching, media, counseling, drama, worship, preaching, missions and creative arts.
"Many young people today are asking, 'What is my purpose?' 'How should I define success?' 'What is God calling me to do?'" said Phyllis Fox, director of YiM. "We explore those questions and help teens find answers at the Big Picture Conference."
The Big Picture involves life discovery assessments, accountability groups, worship services and hands-on ministry opportunities with local ministers and professionals who work in churches and benevolent organizations. By the end of the week, teens develop a personal action plan to help guide their future decisions and vocational choices.
Curtis Booher, student minister at Crossroads Christian Church in Gray, is dean of the Big Picture Student Leadership Conference. Other conference leaders and counselors include youth and student ministers from churches in the Southeast, as well as faculty from Milligan College and Emmanuel School of Religion.
"Our mission is for The Big Picture to be a week that will change teens' lives and help guide their futures. Forty percent of last year's conference attendees made vocational ministry decisions," said Fox.
YiM has led workshops and seminars throughout the region and eastern U.S. to help teens identify their unique calling in life. YiM also was the coordinator and co-sponsor of the North American Christian Convention (NACC) Teen Convention, held in Phoenix, Ariz., July 5-8.
YiM is a partnership of Milligan College and Emmanuel School of Religion. For more information about The Big Picture Teen Leadership Conference or other YiM events, contact Phyllis Fox at 423-975-8021 or visit www.youthinministry.org.
