Wanted: County Commissioner. A qualified candidate is needed to attend monthly meetings and vote on topics that effect the lives of Carter County citizens. The candidate should possess a qualifying address in the 4th district, volunteer to work long hours for little pay, and represent every resident in his/her district. Interested persons should contact the Carter County Mayor's office for an application.
The Carter County Commission will have the opportunity to evaluate and choose one applicant at the July 19 commission meeting. Commissioner Chuck Culler resigned at the June 28 meeting. Culler, who formally represented the 4th district, cited personal reasons and moving to another district as reason for his resignation.
Once a commissioner moves his permanent residency out of the district he/she serves, the commissioner is automatically ousted from his seat on the commission.
The remaining 23 commissioners will choose one of the applicants to fill the position until the next election in November, when voters will select a replacement for the remainder of the term. Interested candidates need to apply at the County Mayor's office. Anyone interested in running in the November election should pick up an application in the Election Commission office. Both offices are located in the Carter County Courthouse at 801 E. Elk Avenue, Elizabethton.
The candidate must live in the 4th district of East Side, Siam, and the courthouse. If you are unsure of the district in which you live, please refer to your voter's registration card or call the Election Commission office at 542-1822.
