TCRA receives $1.9 million grant

From Staff Reports
Tri-Cities Regional Airport will undergo major improvements after receiving a federal grant for approximately $1.9 million. The grant was approved and is provided by the United Stated Department of Transportation.
"The grant will help us get a number of projects underway," John Hanlin, Tri-Cities Regional Airport executive director, said. The money will be used to repair the terminal ramp drainage system which is causing deterioration.
An access road will be completed to the general aviation area, a terminal loop road will be relocated, and a wetland area will be monitored. The funds will also be used to widen the entrance bridge to ease traffic because of growing airport development.
The grant was applied for under the Airport Improvement Program grant system, and the airport is entitled to receive the money within 30 days. The grant did require a fund match by Sullivan County because the general aviation access road will be a county road.
