ECS school board set to name interim director

From Staff Reports

An interim director of schools may soon be named by the Elizabethton Board of Education to replace Dr. Judy Blevins.
The board is scheduled to meet in special session on Thursday night to discuss the interim director of schools position. ECS board chairman, Dr. Bob Sams, called the meeting.
Blevins announced her resignation as director last month to become director of the Campbell County school system. Her contract as Elizabethton's director of schools ends July 29.
A potential candidate to become interim director could be assistant director of schools Rondald Taylor. Taylor spent better than 20 years in the Carter County School system before being named principal of East Side Elementary School in 1989. He was named assistant director of schools in October 2002.
The board also plans to discuss future use of the former Emergency Child Shelter building on Parkway Boulevard. Both the school system and city of Elizabethton have expressed interest in developing the property.
The Tennessee Department of Children's Services ended the state's right to house juveniles at the shelter after a contract between the state and the department expired June 30, 2002.
