Passing motorist finds body

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. -- A passing motorist found
the body of a male whose fingers had been cut off on a road
in the Tri-Cities region Tuesday morning.
Washington County, Virginia Sheriff Fred Newman
said a motorist noticed the body lying in a section of gravel
along Good Hope Road around 12:30 a.m. and called officers.
Good Hope Road is about 5 miles southeast of Abingdon.
Officers said the victim is a 50 to 60-year-old
white male. All of the fingers on both of his hands had been
cut off.
The victim's identity is still unknown. The body
has been taken to Roanoke, Va. for an autopsy, police said.
Sheriff Newman said the man had reddish-brown
hair, and was wearing khaki shorts and a brown plaid shirt.
