Shooting in Kingsport sends two
to hospital

A Kingsport father on Sunday morning called police
to tell them he shot his girlfriend and son while they were
standing on the porch of his residence. The victims were transported
to Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital with injuries.
Delmer H. Laughlin, 63, 1501 Ford Town Rd., called
the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department at 8:46 a.m. and
said he had shot his son, Delmer Dewayne Laughlin, 37, in
the abdomen, and his girlfriend, Mary Carla Clark, 32, in
the left shoulder and left knee.
According to a police report, Laughlin shot both
victims with a 12-gauge shotgun.
The incident is still under investigation, and
Laughlin was taken into custody. Both victims underwent surgery
for their injuries Sunday, according to police.
