Wings transports man hit by tree limb

From Staff Reports

A man who was critically injured while cutting lumber was transported by Wings Air Rescue to the Johnson City Medical Center Wednesday afternoon.
Jerry Shelton, 31, address unknown, was accidentally hit on the back of the head by a tree limb in a section of forest off of 141 Price Rd. in Carter County, according to his brother, Orville Shelton, who was working with him at the time of the accident.
The two men are employees of Dillard Shelton, who is not related to the brothers and who said he operates an independent contracting business that transports cut wood to Shoun Lumber located in Butler.
Dillard Shelton called 911 at approximately 3:15 p.m. when the accident occurred. The Carter County Rescue Squad and Sheriff's Department had to drive on rugged terrain on an unpaved gravel road to get to the scene of the accident.
Dillard Shelton said the land where the men were cutting wood belongs to Duke Morton, but he didn't know the exact address of the property.
At 5:30 p.m., JCMC officials said Jerry Shelton was listed in serious condition.
