Interim director of local Red Cross returning to traveling Broadway show

From Staff Reports

Kim Fisk, who was hired last fall to manage the Carter County Red Cross office, is leaving in July to return to her previous position with a Broadway show that will travel the United States.
Red Cross officials said that, while they regret losing Fisk, they are not surprised due to the fact that she was hired on an interim basis as the organization transitioned from being a chapter to a certified service unit for Carter County.
Jane Harris, Executive Director of the Kingsport Area Hawkins County Chapter that provides oversight for the Carter County office, said, "Kim has done an excellent job of initiating programs, developing a solid volunteer base and informing the public about the services of the Red Cross." Harris also said the organization will fill the coordinator position and move on with no disruption of service or office hours in Carter County.
During the past six months, the Red Cross has worked to develop its disaster program. A total of 70 disaster-training certifications have been issued to 24 disaster volunteers who are now ready to respond to disasters that occur in Carter County. Also, a total of 80 individuals have been assisted with emergency needs, which have included food, clothing, medicines, and shelter. Harris said the help of the Red Cross has not stopped with this assistance as more than 2,000 individuals have received disaster assistance materials.
In addition to disaster assistance, training and planning, the Red Cross has also sent emergency messages, helping 37 military families remain in contact with service members from Carter County. Also, more than 700 individuals have been trained in CPR, first aid and swim lessons.
The Red Cross under Fisk's leadership held the first ever Carter County Community Home Safety Day in Carter County in cooperation with numerous other agencies and has worked with volunteer leadership to host a community garage sale this month.
The Carter County Advisory Group met Monday, and members of the group planned for hiring a new coordinator for the local office. Individuals with previous Red Cross and management experience as well as knowledge of non-profit organizations may send their resume to the Red Cross at 116 Holston Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
"Speaking for the American Red Cross, we have been very pleased with the work in Carter County over the past few months. We know the trained volunteers and the new manager, when hired, will carry on the work of the Red Cross with the enthusiasm and integrity that has been evident recently," said Harris.
