Kids Fishing Day scheduled

A Kids' Fishing Day for children ages 12 and under will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Edward's Island, north of the Elk Avenue Bridge.
The event, which is part of the Covered Bridge Days celebration, is sponsored by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the U.S. Forest Service.
To enhance fishing opportunities for participants, the Doe River below the Elk Avenue Bridge will be stocked with brook trout prior to the Saturday morning event.
A spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service said the Kids' Fishing Day provides children with the opportunity to have fun and spend some quality time with their family and friends. "The supplemental stocking of fish gives kids a better chance of reeling in the catch of their lives. The more positive their initial fishing experience is, the more likely they will adopt fishing as a lifelong hobby," the spokesman said.
