Sgt. Cornett captures Georgia fugitive

From Staff Reports

A fugitive from Georgia was arrested around 1:45 a.m. today on Sims Hill Road by Carter County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Penny Cornett after she responded to a break-in in progress in the vicinity of Stateline Road.
When the officer arrived at the scene a minute later, she observed a blue Mercury Grand Marquis leaving the area.
Sgt. Cornett followed the vehicle a short distance onto Sims Hill Road where she conducted a traffic stop.
After running a check on the license of the driver, identified as Curtis Robert Drew, 22, 46 Fiddler Drive, Beaufort, S.C., Sgt. Cornett was advised by the Emergency Communications Center that Drew was wanted out of Effingham, Ga., for theft of a motor vehicle.
Upon contacting Georgia authorities, Cornett was advised that Georgia would extradite. Drew was taken into custody and charged with being a fugitive from justice.
