One injured in Holston Avenue wreck

From Staff Reports

A two-vehicle accident that occurred near the Carter County 911 Communications District office sent an Elizabethton woman to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
According to Elizabethton Police Department Ptl. Carl Burrough, a Subaru driven by a 16-year-old Watauga girl ran a stop sign at the intersection of East G Street and Holston Avenue and struck a gray Honda that was traveling northbound on Holston Avenue.
The driver of the Honda, Elizabeth Clemons, 21, 921 Pine Ridge Circle, was transported to Sycamore Shoals Hospital by the Carter County Rescue Squad. Clemons was extricated from the vehicle, but her injuries were not life-threatening according to police. The driver of the Subaru was also transported by rescue personnel as a precautionary measure.
Police and 911 personnel diverted traffic away from the intersection for almost one hour while the vehicles were removed and the scene was cleared.
Burrough said the juvenile would be charged with failure to yield for a stop sign.
