NSTCC creates memorial scholarship for Elizabethton man

From Staff Reports

BLOUNTVILLE -- Northeast State Technical Community College has established an endowed scholarship in memory of an Elizabethton man who died in late March.
The scholarship remembers Jeremy L. Hewlett, 21, and was created by the college's Pre-Engineering Department. Hewlett was the son of Martin Lynn and Jerrie Mayfield Hewlett of Elizabethton.
As a pre-engineering major, Hewlett would have graduated this spring with an associate degree. He planned to transfer to Tennessee Technological University in the fall to complete an engineering degree. Northeast State faculty, staff and friends established the scholarship to honor Hewlett and provide educational support for other deserving pre-engineering students.
By endowing the scholarship, contributions that make up the principal remain invested, and only the earned income from the investment is used to make an award. This way, the scholarship provides continuous funding and is always available to help pre-engineering students at Northeast State.
Contributions to the Jeremy L. Hewlett Memorial Endowed Scholarship may be made to the Northeast State Foundation, P.O. Box 246, Blountville, TN 37617.
