Myers sentenced to 8 years probation

From Staff Reports

An Elizabethton man who had been charged with second-degree murder received probation on a lesser charge in Criminal Court on Monday.
Ralph McDaniel Myers, 49, Elizabethton, was sentenced to eight years probation by Judge Bob Cupp. Myers had been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 23-year-old Justin Vanover on Dec. 19, 2000.
He was indicted for second-degree murder by the grand jury on May 6, 2002. According to the true bill, jurors had indicted Myers for allegedly distributing methadone -- a Schedule II narcotic -- to Vanover shortly before he died.
Myers pleaded no contest to the second-degree murder charge. He had been incarcerated for several months prior to the plea and sentence.
