One killed, two injured in 19E wreck

   An Elizabethton man was killed and two women were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 19E in Roan Mountain Saturday afternoon.
   Thomas R. Irick, 40, 127 Dan Cole Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Timothy Barnett.
   According to reports, Irick was driving a 1994 Mitsubishi northbound on Highway 19E near the intersection of that highway with Tiger Creek Road when the vehicle crossed over the center line and into the southbound lanes of traffic and struck another vehicle in a head-on. The accident happened just shortly after Noon on Saturday.
   The other vehicle, a 2000 Subaru, was driven by Betha Whitehead-Hughes, of Newland, N.C. Both Whitehead-Hughes and the passenger in her vehicle, Patricia Cole of Roan Mountain, were seriously injured in the accident. One of the ladies was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center by Wings Air Rescue and the other was transported to the same hospital by Carter County Rescue Squad personnel.
   Both Whitehead-Hughes and Cole were listed in fair condition at the hospital Saturday night.
