Man, woman charged with child neglect

From Staff Reports

An Elizabethton man and woman were arrested Tuesday on an indictment charging them with child neglect.
Craig Lee Morton, 24, and Angela Marie Morton, 22, both of 151 Crestview Dr., No. 18, were arrested Tuesday morning by Carter County Sheriff's Department Deputy Kevin Cable on an indictment charging each of them with one count of aggravated child neglect.
The indictment, which was handed down by a Carter County Grand Jury last month states that sometime around the first week of July, 2003, Craig Morton and Angela Morton committed "the offense of attempted aggravated child abuse by knowingly, other than by accidental means, treating Carmen Marie Morton, a child less than six years of age, in such a manner which resulted in serious body injury."
Aggravated child neglect is a Class B felony under state law.
Further information about the event which prompted the indictment was unavailable Wednesday afternoon.
