Man, woman charged with child neglect

An Elizabethton man and woman were arrested Tuesday
on an indictment charging them with child neglect.
Craig Lee Morton, 24, and Angela Marie Morton,
22, both of 151 Crestview Dr., No. 18, were arrested Tuesday
morning by Carter County Sheriff's Department Deputy Kevin
Cable on an indictment charging each of them with one count
of aggravated child neglect.
The indictment, which was handed down by a Carter
County Grand Jury last month states that sometime around the
first week of July, 2003, Craig Morton and Angela Morton committed
"the offense of attempted aggravated child abuse by knowingly,
other than by accidental means, treating Carmen Marie Morton,
a child less than six years of age, in such a manner which
resulted in serious body injury."
Aggravated child neglect is a Class B felony
under state law.
Further information about the event which prompted
the indictment was unavailable Wednesday afternoon.
