Law enforcement officers arrested a 26-year-old
male and a 23-year-old female early Wednesday morning and
charged them with possession of Schedule II narcotics for
resale following a routine traffic stop near the intersection
of U.S. Highway 91 and Minton Hollow Road.
William Joey Perkins, 197 Browns Branch Road,
Hampton, and Rebecca S. Vestal, Lynnwood Apartments, Apt.
H-2, were both taken into custody by Tennessee Constable Harvey
Shaffer after he stopped a maroon Volkswagon. Perkins was
also charged with driving on a suspended license.
According to reports, Shaffer observed the vehicle
being driven in an erratic manner on Siam Road, crossing the
center line and the fog line on multiple occasions. The vehicle
left Siam Road and started traveling on U.S. Highway 19E in
the direction of the intersection with East Elk Avenue. The
vehicle then turned onto U.S. Highway 91 and later onto Minton
Hollow Road, when it was stopped by Shaffer.
Carter County Sheriff's Department officers Deputy
Kenny Cornett and Deputy Sarah Ryan, along with K-9 Sgt. Kabor
also responded to the scene.
