Mountain States to host open house for sleep center

From Staff Reports

JOHNSON CITY -- Mountain States Health Alliance will host an open house at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at its newly accredited Center for Sleep Disorders at Johnson City Medical Center.
The center, located at 310 N. State of Franklin Road, Suite 301, ranks as the Tri-Cities region's only American Academy of Sleep Medicine accredited centers. The center received notice of accreditation in February from the academy, which is committed to ensuring that those in the field of sleep medicine provide excellent healthcare and enhance the awareness of sleep as an important element for health, public safety, and quality of life.
"By meeting all of the standards substantially and the criteria as set forth by this agency, they are placing their stamp of approval on the Center for Sleep Disorders while documenting that we are upholding their standards as well as our own," said Bobby Reed, coordinator.
The center allows healthcare professionals to study the stages of sleep and periods of sleep apnea. "What we are looking at is anything that disturbs an individual's sleep," Reed said.
The center also focuses on studies of sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and other sleep disorders.
