Man charged after attack on fellow inmate

   An inmate at the Carter County Jail has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with an incident where he allegedly struck another inmate in the face.
   Lanny Allen Markland Jr., 21, 411 Washington Ave., was charged in the assault of another inmate that occurred Sunday afternoon.
   According to reports, officers spoke with the victim who stated that while he had been sitting on the toilet, Markland struck in him the head with the wringer handle of a mop bucket. The victim suffered a wound to the left side of his face, the report states.
   In the report written by Carter County Sheriff's Department Deputy Jesse Booher, when officers interviewed Markland regarding the incident, he stated that "he had in fact struck the victim after finding him in a vulnerable position."
   Markland is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on April 7 to answer to the charge of aggravated assault.
