Rep. Jerome Cochran, R-Johnson City, has been named a Legislative Herold by the Tennessee Home Education Association (THEA) as part of their Capitol Hill Rally and Reception Day 2003.
"I am humbled by this honor," said Cochran. "I appreciate the work that parents do to take such an active role in their lives and education.
"I also want to applaud the home school community for the support, encouragement and assistance they give each other."
The THEA is a volunteer organization formed in 1984 to preserve the rights of parents to direct the education of their children.
Over 30,000 children in Tennessee are home-schooled. The THEA coordinates graduation ceremonies, teacher workshops, science fairs, field days and field trips, and other activities for home educators across the state.
Cochran serves the 4th Legislative District of the Tennessee House of Representatives, consisting of Carter County.
