First Congressional District to share
grant

Several counties in the First Congressional District
will share in a $3.9 million federal grant to improve transportation.
The funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation include
Cocke, Hamblen and Sevier counties in the East Tennessee Human
Resource Agency for a $65,000 automatic vehicle washer.
The First Tennessee Human Resource Agency in
Johnson City will receive $49,000 for capital improvements
to a maintenance garage and $30,000 for scheduling and reporting
software. The area serves Carter, Greene, Hawkins, Johnson,
Sullivan, Washington, Hancock and Unicoi counties.
Johnson City will receive $68,000 for the expansion
to a bus parking area and $32,000 for safety and security
improvements to the transit center. Kingsport will receive
$1.9 million to purchase 10 transit buses.
