Annual School Fire Prevention Program under way

The Elizabethton Fire Department is conducting its annual School Fire Prevention Program at local schools. The program, which has been ongoing for the last 10 years, reaches about 3,500 children in Elizabethton and Carter County.
Capt. Barry Carrier, Elizabethton fire marshal, said, "Fire-related injuries continue to go down since the inception of the program. About 1,000 children come by the station and get the materials while about 2,500 of them learn in the schools."
Carrier expressed thanks to the business, industrial and professional leaders of Elizabethton and Carter County for their support.
"Their donations make the program possible, especially in these times of tight budgets," Carrier said.
The contributors are listed each year on the backs of all K-5 manuals which go out to schools, day cares and pre-schools.
