Blountville preacher found dead at Watauga Lake

From Staff Reports

The body of a Blountville preacher was found around noon Saturday about 50 yards offshore from Little Stoney Campground at Watauga Lake.
According to law enforcement officials, Fred Brewer, 59, of Blountville, was found in a bass boat by boaters. Brewer was half in and half out the back of the boat, face up in the water, with his legs over the transome.
Officials said Brewer, a preacher for more than 30 years, had been camping at Little Stoney since Tuesday and had some serious health problems.
The boaters who found Brewer brought him to shore and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until Carter County Rescue Squad arrived. They then returned and brought in Brewer's boat. It is unknown how long Brewer had been in the water.
Tim Walther of Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is conducting the investigation. The body was sent to Quillen-Dishner College of Medicine for autopsy.
