Police investigating damage to bank

   Police are investigating some suspicious damage to a local bank which is estimated to cost thousands of dollars to repair.
   According to reports, officers of the Elizabethton Police Department were called to AmSouth Bank, at 301 Broad St., on Wednesday morning regarding debris in the parking lot. "Upon arrival (I) observed a large amount of debris to the rear of the parking lot," EPD Ptl. Tonya Range said in her report. "(I) also observed a large hole and severe damage to the drive-thru overhang. Pieces of the overhang were scattered over the west side of the parking lot and to the south side of the building to Broad Street."
   Tire marks were visible near the area of the building which was damaged, according to Range's report.
   Employees of the bank noticed the damage when they arrived for work Wednesday morning.
   According to a police report, it is unknown if the damage was done as vandalism or as an attempt to break into the bank.
   Work crews worked Thursday afternoon to repair damage to the building which was estimated at $5,000.
