Rangers advance to semis From Staff ReportsMURFREESBORO -- It had been 12 years since a Carter County basketball team won a game in the state high school basketball tournament. That all changed on Wednesday afternoon. In the Class A state quarterfinals at The Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University, Unaka edged out Franklin Road Academy in breathtaking fashion, winning 41-39 on a last-second basket. The Rangers' state basketball victory was the first by a Carter County school since Hampton defeated Houston County in the 1992 quarterfinals, and Unaka's first-ever in state play. Unaka moves on to face Tennessee Temple in a semifinal contest on Friday at 12:15 p.m. (CST). The winner plays in Saturday's championship at 3 p.m. (CST).
