From Staff Reports

JOHNSON CITY -- A 22-year-old East Tennessee State University student died early Friday morning after apparently falling from a second-store balcony at Buccaneer Ridge Apartments, H-329.
According to Kristen Fry, University Relations, ETSU Public Safety Officer Chad Proffitt responded to a panic alarm at Building H around 1:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, the officer found the body of student James Robert Nottingham of Kingsport lying on the sidewalk in a pool of blood. The officer noted severe head trauma to the body and could detect no breathing or pulse. Emergency Medical Service personnel arrived and pronounced Nottingham dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation by ETSU Public Safety determined the student died from injuries sustained after apparently falling from the balcony of the apartment building. The body was taken to ETSU's James H. Quillen College of Medicine for autopsy.
Fry said there were no witnesses. Further information was unavailable.
Nottingham was a member of the ROTC program at ETSU and was a graduate of the Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga.
