Frist urges youth to value art

From Staff Reports

Addressing the coming end of Youth Art Month in the state, Sen. Bill Frist on Monday challenged Tennessee students to embrace the value of art education all year.
"Art education is an essential element to a balanced education," said Frist. "It promotes creativity and self-expression as well as further development and pride in one's own individual talents. I hope all Tennessee students will use this month to learn more about art education and the benefits it can provide all the year through."
Youth Art Month has been celebrated nationally since 1969 and was created to acknowledge and encourage skills fostered through experience in the arts that is not possible in other school subjects. Youth Art Month wages support for art by emphasizing the importance of art education and community participation.
