The new McDonald's store at 110 First Ave., Hampton, has a tentative opening date of March 21 and is hiring 40-45 employees. The franchise is owned by Rick and Diane Washburn.
Allen Johnson, Greeneville Oil, Greeneville, is developing the property, according Diane Washburn. "He's going to operate the convenience and gas side," Washburn said. "We're going to operate the McDonald's side."
Debby Young, who will manage the Hampton McDonald's, began her career as a crew person in the Elizabethton store. "I started making biscuits and worked my way up," said Young, who moved up the ranks as swing manager on different shifts, second assistant and first assistant.
On Feb. 5, Young was named manager of the Hampton store during a festive occasion involving balloons and a singing telegram. "She was quite embarrassed, and she'll always remember the day she got promoted," Washburn said.
The store's decor will center around a fishing theme, according to Washburn, "to kind of go along with Watauga Lake."
The Hampton McDonald's will feature most of the items found in other McDonald's. Among the missing items, however, will be the salads, bagels and baked cookies.
Flexible schedules are offered for both full-time and part-time workers, ranging from high school age students to retirees.
The new 36-seat McDonald's will be open 5 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m.-11 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 725-3551.
