Local teen injured in car wreck

A local teenager was injured Wednesday night in a single-vehicle
accident after he lost control of his vehicle and it left
the road and struck a utility pole.
The 16-year-old male, whose name was not released due to his
age, was flown by Wings Air Rescue to the Johnson City Medical
Center for injuries he sustained in the crash which occurred
shortly after 9 p.m.
According to a police report on the traffic accident, the
juvenile male was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier north
on Siam Road. The vehicle left the right side of the road,
re-entered the highway and crossed over both lanes of traffic
before leaving the left side of the road and striking a utility
pole. The car the flipped and came to rest on its top, trapping
the juvenile inside until rescuers could arrive.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Siam Road and
Clover Branch Road.
The force of the car's impact broke the utility pole into
several pieces and knocked out power to residents in that
area.
According to officials with the Elizabethton Electric System,
somewhere between 300 and 400 customers were without power
for approximately two hours. According to residents in the
area, a portion of Siam Road was also closed for two hours
and telephone service to the area was disrupted as well.
