One dead, three injured after single-car accident on S.R. 67 in Johnson County

MOUNTAIN CITY - A single vehicle accident on State Route 67 in Johnson County left an elderly woman dead and three other people injured Tuesday afternoon.
   According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Thelma R. Pierce, 71, of Mountain City was a passenger in the car when it crashed at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
   Leslie Hicks of Burnsville, N.C., was the driver of a 1986 Oldsmobile going eastbound on State Route 67 when, according to reports, he fell asleep and left the roadway, striking an oak tree. He was injured in the accident and taken to the Johnson City Medical Center.
   Also in the car at the time of the accident were Freida Hicks and Victor Hicks, also of Burnsville, N.C. Freida Hicks was admitted to Sycamore Shoals Hospital on Tuesday and was still a patient there Wednesday evening. No further information on her condition is available.
   Victor Hicks received only minor injuries in the accident.
