McClain to seek County Executive post

   Bobby Ray McClain, 814 Deerfield Lane, Hampton, is announcing his candidacy for Carter County Executive in the Aug. 1 General Election.
   McClain is the owner of McClain's Pest Control which has been in business locally more than 18 years.
   "I pledge to be a hands-on county executive and vow to remember that the citizens of Carter County elected me to provide direction for our community throughout the next four years."
   McClain believes his expertise as a businessman, as well as his longtime participation with various agencies and boards, would positively impact his service as county executive.
   "I welcome all opportunities to work cooperatively with county commissioners and other community leaders," McClain said.
   Currently serving his sixth year as a member of the Carter County Board of Education, McClain said his experience with a $32 million school system budget, as well as a $12 million school building program, has enabled him to see that the future focus must be on strong industrial recruitment, continued growth of tourism and recreational areas, and excellent educational opportunities for our leaders of today and tomorrow.
   "I look forward to serving the citizens of Carter County and working toward industrial recruitment and employment opportunities, an improved educational system, and a safe, drug-free county of which everyone can be proud.
   "Carter County is a community to be proud of. It is an area filled with strong, dedicated and hardworking individuals seeking the best for their families. My vision for Carter County is bright with positive growth in all areas."
   McClain has previously served as a community board member of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, president of the East Tennessee Pest Control Association, board member of the Elizabethton/Carter County Boys and Girls Club, and board member of the Hampton Utility District.
   McClain is a member of the Carter County Chamber of Commerce as well as several state and national pest control organizations. His company provides financial support to various area youth organizations, as well as to the Elizabethton Twins minor league baseball team.
   McClain is an active member and elder of Hampton Christian Church. Son of Gladys McClain Winters and the late Henry McClain, he and his wife, Carol, have two sons, Danny and Mark, daughter-in- law, Teresa, and grandsons, Cody and Adam.
