Coach found not guilty

A Greene County girls basketball coach was acquitted by a Carter County jury on Wednesday of having unlawful sexual contact with one of his players. The trial was held in Criminal Court.
The jury found Harold Gaby not guilty of sexual battery by an authority figure. The jury had the option of finding Gaby guilty of assault, but the panel also returned a not guilty verdict on the lesser charge.
Gaby had been accused of engaging in the unlawful behavior with a high school girl in the back of a school bus in January 2001 as the team was returning from a game at Unaka High School.
He was suspended by the Greene County School Board following the accusations.
