Virginia men charged with burglaries
From Staff Reports
Two Richlands, Va., men have been charged with
the Jan. 12-13 burglaries of Union Prescription Shop, 402
Bemberg Road, during which a quantity of hydrocodone, a Schedule
III controlled substance, was taken.
According to Capt. Mike Peters of Elizabethton
Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division, investigators
received information Thursday from the Richlands (Va.) Police
Department that they had searched a Richlands residence and
found three empty hydrocodone containers. The lot numbers
were checked through the drug companies and it was determined
that the containers were from burglaries at Union Prescription.
According to Capt. Peters, the drug containers
were found at the residence of Bradley Sparkman, 23. Upon
interviewing Sparkman, he related details of the burglaries
to Elizabethton Police. Following an interview with Sparkman,
Elizabethton Police developed another suspect, Ryan Huston
Vandyke, 19, who is currently being held in Tazewell County
Jail on a Virginia burglary charge.
After interviewing additional witnesses it was
determined that Vandyke was involved with both burglaries
while Sparkman was involved in the one Jan. 13.
Vandyke has been charged with two counts of burglary
and Sparkman with one count. Certified copies of the charges
will be sent to Virginia authorities to be served on both
men. An extradition hearing will follow.
Investigation into the Union Prescription Shop
burglaries and other pharmacy burglaries in the Tri-Cities
area is continuing.
