Woman files lawsuit against NECC
From Staff Reports
GREENEVILLE -- A Brentwood woman has filed a $10 million federal
lawsuit against Northeast Correctional Complex ans Warden
Howard Carlton in Mountain City. The lawsuit claims that inadequate
medical care resulted in the death of the woman's son who
was an inmate at the facility two years ago.
Sharon Dennis said in the lawsuit that prison officials ignored
flu-like symptons in her son, 33-year-old Rodney Hudson, for
two weeks. She said only after Hudson began coughing up blood
on December 16, 2002 did authorities seek medical care for
him.
Hudson died while he was being transported to Sycamore Shoals
Hospital.
The suit was filed Jan. 14 and names the prison and Warden
Howard Carlton as defendants.
Tennessee Correction spokeswoman, Jennifer Johnson, said the
department does not comment on pending litigation.
