Cochran appointed to House Transportation, Judiciary committees

   State House Rep. Jerome Cochran, R-Elizabethton, was appointed to the House Transportation and Judiciary committees as the 103rd General Assembly closed out its first weekorganizational session on Friday.
   Cochran begins his first term in the legislature after defeating incumbent Ralph Cole in November.
   Third District state Sen. Dewey "Rusty" Crowe, R-Johnson City, maintained his seat on the Education Committee and was appointed to the General Welfare Committee. On Saturday, Crowe was also named chairman of the Senate Calendar Committee.
   State senator and new Republican caucus chairman, Ron Ramsey, R-Blountville, was appointed to the Environment, Finance, and State and Local Government committees.
   Second District Rep. Nathan Vaughn, D-Kingsport, was named to the Children and Family and Transportation committees as well as the powerful Finance Ways and Means Committee. Vaughn defeated Republican Bob Miller in November for the seat formerly held by Keith Westmoreland who committed suicide in June.
   House representative for Johnson County and a portion of Sullivan County, Jason Mumpower, R-Bristol, was appointed to the Health and State and Local Government committees.
