Accident leaves passenger dead, driver
injured
From Staff Reports
A traffic accident on Siam Road, near East Side
Free Will Baptist Church, left one woman dead and another
injured Saturday afternoon.
According to Capt. Rusty Verran, an accident
reconstructionist with the Elizabethton Police Department,
the driver of the 1989 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck made a
right turn onto Siam Road off of Highway 19E northbound.
"After making the right hand turn at the intersection,
the vehicle traveled approximately 150 feet and ran off the
right side of the road and struck a guardrail," Verran said.
After the truck struck the guardrail, he stated, the truck
then got back on Siam Road and traveled another 150 feet before
leaving the roadway a second time and striking a utility pole.
"The passenger of the truck was pronounced dead
at the scene by the coroner," Verran said. "The driver was
transported to the Johnson City Medical Center."
The names of the two women involved have not
yet been released, pending notification of the family, Verran
said.
It is unclear at this time as to what caused
the accident and the investigation into the incident is ongoing,
Verran stated. He added that witnesses to the accident were
able to aid investigators by providing information on the
incident with details about what they had seen.
