Tax study members announced

From Staff Reports

Gov. Don Sundquist has announced the members of an independent Tax Structure Study Committee. Sen. Joe Haynes sponsored legislation last year that created the committee.
"The past few years have revealed some serious flaws in Tennessee's antiquated tax structure," Sundquist said. "It is my hope that this commission will help us improve the way state government is funded so that Tennessee can continue to invest in education, health care and the safety of its citizens."
The new tax commission will examine all aspects of state taxation and reports its findings on or before July 1, 2004.
The commission will be composed of five members appointed by the speakers of the House and Senate as well as five members and five non-voting members appointed by the governor.
