Plea agreement expected in Oaks murder case

From Staff Reports

A Roan Mountain man charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old Roger Lynn Oaks Jr. of Roan Mountain is expected to enter a guilty plea Friday before Carter County Criminal Court Judge Lynn Brown.
Sources say Terry Dean Harrell, 275 Cove Creek Road, will enter into a plea agreement rather than go to trial, with sentencing to be set at a later date. Harrell's case originally had been set for trial Tuesday.
On June 28, 2001, General Sessions Court Judge John Walton found reason to believe Harrell acted with premeditation when he shot Oaks in the chest and face with a Colt .45.
Oaks died May 14 of multiple gunshot wounds, according to provisional autopsy results from Dr. Gretel Harlan of Quillen-Dishner College of Medicine.
Harrell has been held in Carter County Jail since his arrest, originally under $175,000 bond which later was reduced to $90,000 corporate bond.
